Remember the Old Country Church

Sometimes the greatest treasures in life, cost no money at all.  Sometimes they are found in the solace of a little country church.  I often post about the little country churches we attend.
I'm posting this picture in black and white, because this Old Country Church stands atop a hill surrounded by mountains in the Southern end of Whitley County, much like it did decades ago.
Ryan's Creek Baptist Church was established in 1884; most of the families in the area back then, have passed on, and their children have moved away, leaving about twenty or so faithful members to carry on.
Though the crowd is small, The Holy Ghost still flows from breast to breast, 'The Word' is still preached, and the songs of Zion, sung.
The Pastor of many years, Herb Wells, has asked my husband to preach tomorrow's sermon.  It is always an honor for him to preach, wherever he is asked.  We feel Blessed to live in an area that still has churches, that really know the Lord.

Ryan's Creek Baptist Church
Thus saith the Lord, Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.  For he shall be like a heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.  Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
 Jeremiah 17: 5,6,7

A Cat Named 'Ole Shep'

'Ole Shep' can't bark
Let me introduce you to 'Ole Shep.'  He was our neighbors cat, until he moved away last winter, leaving him behind.  We had no idea he had left his cat behind, for several weeks; until one day I spotted the cat sitting out in the field in about 4 inches of snow.  I took some food to the cat, but he ran away.  I left the food, and started putting food out everyday for him.
In just a couple of days he came in to us.  He was so thin and malnourished we didn't know if he would make it.  He had pulled most of his fur out down to the bare skin.  His fur is coming back now, and he is one happy cat.
I think the only ones happier, are us, his new owners.  He is one terrific cat; so loving, and has such a personality.  Every time he catches a mole, he brings it on the porch and lays it down, even though he doesn't eat them.  He is a good mouser, too.  He follows us around like a dog, and just can't get enough petting.
He likes dry cat food in the morning, warm milk at noon, and canned cat food in the evenings.  He always wants to be petted before he eats.  I just can't tell you how much this little fella means to us.
You might wonder how 'Ole Shep' got his name.  When he came here, he was so shaggy, my husband said he looked like a shaggy dog, and lovingly tagged him with 'Ole Shep.'
For us it was a match made in Heaven, and we thank God for 'Ole Shep.'

Does Pepsi and Kraft use aborted baby tissue; read for yourself?

I read something appalling this morning.  I read that Pepsi, Kraft, and some others are using HEK-293 ( tissue taken from the kidneys of aborted babies ) to produce a flavor enhancer in their products.  I wanted to scream.  I had never heard of such a horrid thing; and it is being kept from the general public.  Of course it is public knowledge if you know to look for it.  On the Pepsi bottle it merely says natural flavors, so I, like many others, have never had a reason to question, what natural ingredients.

If you search: 'What is HEK-293,' then search 'Does Pepsi use HEK-293; you will find many links about it.  Also pro-life groups are calling for a boycott against Pepsi, because after contacting them, they continue to use HEK-293, while some others that were contacted, stopped.

Well this Kentucky girl will pour out all the Pepsi, and Kraft products in our kitchen, and never purchase more, unless they stop this horrid practice.

Shucking Corn, Kentucky Style

Shucking Corn, Kentucky Style

This morning bright and early, we gathered, and shucked our corn to put in the freezer.  We do things a little differently than most folks, I guess.  For many years, we've been using a chop block, and hatchet to cut the ends off the corn, before we shuck it.  For those of you, who may not know what a chop block is;  it is a tree stump used to cut your kindling on.
We cleaned the chop block, washed the hatchet and started chopping.  We can shuck bushels of corn in a very short time, this way.  We put around 20 quart bags of corn in the freezer, then Bell, and Banana Peppers.  I hope to start canning Green Beans by the end of the week, then Tomatoes early next week.
God has Blessed our little garden, and our lives, and we thank Him.  I have been working for about 40 years, but have been off from work since September.  I have really enjoyed my time off.  I'm trying to get a few things caught up before I go back to work.  I may not get another break for quite some time.
Blessings to you wherever you are, Trisha

Kentucky Families Were Larger Then

Kentucky Family of Seven, minus the Oldest Brother
This is a picture of my brothers and sisters taken in the 1940's, in the hills of Eastern Kentucky.  At that time there were seven in our family besides, mom and dad, my oldest brother is not pictured.  About five years later, I came along, then three years later, my baby sister.  Families were much larger then.  Life was simpler, but sometimes hard.    Family was important back then; aunts, uncles, and cousins were visited often.
Seems like a different lifetime, things have changed so much.  All of our aunts, and uncles have gone on, leaving only memories of the lives they'd lived.
We have Hope to see them all again.  That Hope is Jesus Christ.  Blessings, Trisha

Let's Keep Israel in Our Prayers

As most of you know, the Palestinians are planning on petitioning the UN for statehood, with Jerusalem as their capital, in September.  Please pray for the peace of Israel, and that, the US, and Great Britain stands firm along side them.
The Bible tells us that God will bless those that bless Israel, and curse those that curse Israel.  Many think the economy is our biggest issue, but, if the US does not stand with Israel, I shutter to think what might become of our great nation.
   Have a Blessed weekend, Trisha

Unattended and Forgotten

Forgotten Gourds
Often we get so busy, that some things are left unattended, and forgotten.      That is what happened with some miniature gourd seed that I planted over month ago.  I cut a hole in the plastic, loosened the ground, and planted my seed at the back side of the our out building.  I placed a large cage around them, for them to climb, and forgot all about them.
This morning, while canning beets from the garden, I remembered the gourds and went out to see if they had come up.  They had come up, and had flourished, with no attention from me.  The cage had fallen over, and the gourds had grown to a height of about 4 feet.  This could have just as easily been a pesky weed growing unattended for a month, or so.
It made me think about other things we leave unattended, or undone.  I am the world's worse for calling to check on friends, and family.  I have good intentions and always say, maybe I'll do that tomorrow, because I'm just too busy today.  Sometimes tomorrow never comes, until I go see them in the hospital.  God help us to do today, what should have been done yesterday.  Have a Blessed day, Trisha

From the Backyard Park

Our Backyard Park is not much more than a couple of shade trees, a long stack of wood, a small table, and chairs, a swing, and lots of herbs and flowers; but, it is so much more to us.
From the privacy of our Park, we can watch birds, deer, squirrel, rabbit, and an occasional skunk, often without being detected.  It is so peaceful there.

No matter how hot it is during the day, there always seems to be a breeze blowing in the Park.
A good place to spend the evenings, and clear the mind.

Every Park Needs a Swing

Potted Impatiens

We thank God for all His Blessings, including our little Backyard Park.
Have a Blessed day, wherever you are

The Wise Shall Understand, on NTEB Radio (Live Blog Talk Radio) tonight

I Would like to remind everyone about John McTernan's live, Talk Radio broadcast, hosted by Geoffrey Grider on NTEB Radio, Sunday night at 9:00-10:30 Eastern Standard Time; it is a Blog Talk Radio, where you can listen online, call in with questions for John McTernan or Geoffrey Grider, or join the chat room, and interact with other listeners from all around the world.  This is a very interesting program.  Tonight's broadcast will deal with the prophecies in Obadiah.  I do not know what religion, either John McTernan or Geoffrey Grider professes; simply that this is an interesting program relating to what is going on in the world, in relation to Biblical prophecy.  If you would like to listen tonight, you may visit http://johnmcternan.name/   and click on NTEB Radio, then On Air at 9:00 P.M.  EST.
Have a Blessed and beautiful Christian Sabbath day.

Crazy about Crock

3 Gallon Crock, 1 Gallon Crock, Crock Pot
Today has been a good day at the Flea Market.  I found these, nice old crocks.  I love crocks and have many different kinds.
I also found a nice set of 'Derby' resturant ware dishes; white and pink, with a race horse pattern.
We had beautiful weather and found many old things today, including Wagner and Wapak Iron Skillets, Several Tea  Pots, Vintage Jewelry, some Fishing Tackle, and much more.  The markets had better prices today, than usual.  It is getting well into Summer now, and I think the vendors are getting a little tired and really want to make a few sales and go home.  Hope you have had a wonderful and Blessed week.

Summertime in Kentucky

Beets, Red Sails Lettuce, Mustard, and Onions
Summertime, so much to do, gardening, canning and preserving.  Long evenings, listening to Katydid, Crickets, and Jar Flies; watching Lightening Bugs, and reminiscing of days gone by.  The song of Whippoorwill echos through the nightime sky.
Summertime in Kentucky, a thing of beauty.

 Garden Gladiola

Twilight Rainbow

A couple of nights ago, around 8:00 P.M., we had the rare occurrence of and evening rainbow.  We seldom see a rainbow that late, but, it was a welcome sight.
Hope you are enjoying a beautiful Summer, wherever you are.

Blessings, Trisha
