Old Salt Glazed Milk Pitcher

   I found this nice old salt glazed milk pitcher at the flea market today.  I haven't found many mantle pieces lately, so I was overjoyed.  I love the salt glazed pieces, but, they are so pricey I usually pass on them.  This one was in my price range.  Now I will be looking for more to set on the mantle beside it.

Old Butter Churn & Memories of the Good Ole Days

5  Gallon Butter Churn

    We found this old 5 gallon butter churn 

                   at a yard sale today.  This one is a keeper. 

 Sure takes me back to childhood days 

when some days we had so much milk, 

mom and us girls would all churn at the same time. 

 One of us would use a churn like this one, 

one would use an old crank paddle churn, 

and the others would poor milk in gallon jars, 

and shake them on their knees.  

Those were the days when so many families, 

including ours, raised most of our food, 

we raised a garden, chickens, hogs, and a cow.  

   Can't help but think we'd be a lot healthier

 if we raised all our food today, 

 just like in the good ole days.

Old Linen, Crock, Sifter, & Fur

Linen, Crock, Sifter, & Fur

    This is a most unlikely combination of flea market finds.  An old flour sifter, vintage linen, a crock bowl, and a fur collar, but, when I go out junking, I buy what I like even if it doesn't go together.
   The old sifter is from the 1800's, it had belonged to the great grandmother of a sweet little vendor who is probably in her seventies.
   The old crock bowl belonged to the grandmother of another vendor, who is in his sixties, and is getting ready to move to the Phillipines.
   The linen tablecloth is from the 40's or 50's, no kinship associated with that vendor.  The fur collar came in a box of junk, I don't know where it came from, but, it is a good eyecatcher.  It has been great weather for flea marketing this weekend, lots of good deals everywhere.  Hope you've had a great weekend, wherever you are.  Blessings, Trisha

Nippon Hatpin Holders

Nippon Hatpin Holders 

     I found these pretty Nippon Hatpin Holders at a local flea market on Saturday.  The two in the back of the picture are Nippon, the one in front is actually a saltshake, but, will be pretty for smaller hatpins. 
   I don't usually buy Nippon because it is so pricey, but, though these were priced at $25.00 each, and the saltshake was priced at $20.00, the vendor graciously made me a price I couldn't refuse.   
   I don't have any hatpins yet, but, I've always wanted to collect them, now I have something pretty to display them in, when I  find them.

Newcomb Vintage School Record Player

   At the flea market Tuesday, I found this nice old record player that was commonly used in schools around the country when I was growing up.  It still plays great, and the sound is awesome.  With it was a 45 of  'Old Time Preacher Man' sung by Gospel Harmony.

   I've had many old record players in the past, but, this one by far has the best sound.  I'm thinking about painting it either aqua or Robin's egg blue.  I know I will enjoy my trip down memory lane with it.

Vintage Train Case and Bob Pins

1950's Train Case

 





  I found this old black patent leather, polka dot train case today at a local flea market.  It is in pretty much pristine condition.  When I asked the price, I expected about $15 or $20 dollars; but, the lady said $5.  Wow, was I excited.  A beautiful day, good finds; yes, God is good.  

And a  25 cent pack of Bob Pins

   I found another little treasure at the same market, a pack of vintage Bob Pins, the original price in the 1950's was 25 cents.  When I asked the price of them, I had to laugh, because the man said 50 cents, then he wanted to give me back a quarter because the original price had been 25 cents.  Of course, I didn't take it.
   This has been the nicest day we've had this Spring, and everyone seemed so happy to be out of the house.  I found lots of great buys, and had such a good time.  Hope you have had a Blessed day where ever you are.

   Another cold January day;

a perfect time to do some sewing

on my old Singer Sewing Machine.  

This old treadle sewing machine

really takes me back. 

I learned to sew on one just like this.

 I never have any trouble with it,

stitches & tension are always good. 

  Today I made Flour, Sugar, Coffee, Cornmeal, & Tea Sacks. 

   I wanted to use material bigger than a sheet of paper, so, I couldn't print directly onto the material.  I ironed the material, & cut laminating plastic, peeled off the back & adhered to the back side of material, making sure it was flattened down good.  I layed a  sheet of paper on top of material & cut around it with sissors.  My printer is set to print face down, so I placed the material down with the laminating plastic side up.  I printed at least three labels on each piece of material.  It printed great.  I sprayed the labels with Scotchgard Fabric Protector, pealed off the plastic & let material dry.  Then I layed material, print down on my ironing board & ironed on Thermo Web Heat Bond to the back, after it cooled, I pealed off the paper & cut out my labels, then ironed them onto my sacks.  They turnd out pretty good.  Hope you find something you love to do on this cold January day.

Just Another Kentucky Peddler

    Do you love a good junk sale?    I do.
 I took this load to the booth, back in the summer.
To tell you the truth.
  It was a lot more fun getting out and finding it,
than it was selling it.
The best part was; I got to keep my favorite things.

Vintage Linen from the 1930's

   I found this lot of vintage linen at the local flea market last month.  Some of it is really old, and I first thought it was Civil War Era, but, after further checking I realized that most of it was from the 1930's and beyond.

   There's just something about old linen that draws me.  When I'm starching and ironing it,  I feel like a little girl playing with paper dolls.

   I know I'm not alone in my love for linen, because it doesn't last long in my booth.  Seems like it flies off the shelves.

   I found these old vintage Christmas cards today  at the Vendors Mall.  They have so much charm.  I love the yellowed paper and warm sentiments.

Vintage Finds from Preston

   This past weekend we went on our first trip to
Preston, Ky.  for Court Days.  This is an annual

Vintage Finds 

event with vendors from all across the U.S.  It was a beautiful Fall day, and the people were very friendly. 
   We have been to Court Days at Mt.  Sterling a few times, but, really couldn't buy much because it was too crowded to look around.
   Preston was crowded as well, but, was spread out in a larger area so shopping was easier.  Getting items back to our vehicles was a little harder.  We used carts with rollers, and a heavy golf cart with the golf bag removed.
   We met our daughter there, and spent the day shopping with her.  We had a wonderful time, and bought a lot of stuff.
   I was drawn to the big chalk dog, I remember when I was growing up, most homes around here had one.  I love the old bottlecapper, the
vintage meat grinder, the old one cup sifter, and the vintage Pepsi Clock.  It took me a couple days to recuperate from all that walking and pulling carts.  We made so many trips to the vehicles and unloaded, I lost count.  We found some really good prices at Preston.  I was quite surprised.  Many vendors were overpriced, while the setup next to them was very reasonably priced.

    I love these vintage 'Days of Week' flour sack dish towels.  They are hand embroidered, with kittens doing daily chores. 
    These didn't find their way to the booth, they took residence in a spare bedroom. 


Busy Little Kitty

    I love anything made from flour sacks, reminds me of childhood, when material wasn't wasted, flour sacks, feed sacks, and even tiny tobacco sacks were used for something.  The feed sacks were the most colorful and were used to make dresses and aprons.  Seems like another lifetime ago, my how things change.  Guess my mom felt the same way,
since she told of plowing with oxen and
being startled when she saw her first car.

Weekends and Old Rusty Stuff

    We found these old tins over the weekend.  I call things like this old rusty stuff.  I have a good friend that goes antiquing with us some and she says I'm never any competetion to her because I am always looking for old rusty stuff.  She looks for girly stuff.  I buy those as well, but, I love the old rusty stuff just as much.

Hey friends, I'm so glad to be back.


Booth 207 at Corbin Vendors Mall

   We have been really busy with the booth, gardening, and canning. 
   We've had a great summer.
   We decided to bundle our phone, internet,
and cable, we got a much better deal.   




   We've been going to auctions, trying to find things
to stock our booth.

   We hope to go the Simon Kenton Festival in Ohio in a couple of weeks.  We find lots of things up there.


   As always we are amazed by God's grace and His blessings.

Another Flea Market Find



1950's Glass Topped Table 



   We found lots of vintage items at the flea market this past weekend.  Here is one of them; a nice old glass topped table, probablly from the '50's.

   We also found an old boiler kettle, an Anchor Hocking Pickle Jar, and some other good items to put in our booth. 

   I made a couple more Christmas wreaths today to take to the booth as well. 

   Having a booth is a lot of fun, but, it is so hard to keep it stocked, we may only keep it open a few months. 

   We had a few snow showers today, just a little taste of what lies ahead, I think.  I played Christmas carols while I made the wreaths, and that helped put me in the Christmas spirit.

   I still don't have any decorating done.  I am usually one of the first in the neighborhood to put up Christmas decorations, but, our booth has taken all our time.  We've only had it open for two weeks, and have already had to re-stock, five times, and are planning to re-stock again tomorrow.  That's a good thing, though, it means our stuff is selling. 

We thank God for all His Blessings.

Old Churn, Hand Made Dasher

Old Butter Churn and  Hand Made Dasher

   We found this old churn at an estate sale earlier this summer, but it didn't have a lid or dasher with it.  My husband made a lid and dasher for it, that almost looks like the original.  He made the lid out of a wood basket lid, and the dasher out of and old broomstick and a couple pieces of pine.  It's amazing what you can do with some old scraps of wood.

Vintage Blessings

Vintage Expresso, Old Gas Lamp, Old Needlework

   We had a wonderful weekend; 

we got to spend time with our daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, and do some yard saling and flea marketing. 

The weather was great and

God blessed our visit, and trip.

   We found some really nice things,

I love the old copper expresso maker;
but, the most unusual thing we found 

was this old gas lamp
w/ original shade. 
 I also love the old patriotic needlework.  

 We found a lot of red glass,

 a mother of pearl cigarette case,

vintage dresser items, and much more. 

 We couldn't have had a better weekend

if we had ordered one from

The Saturday Evening Post. 

 We thank God for a Blessed weekend.

Finds from the Stanford City Wide Yardsale





Old Singer Sewing Machine


                              

 We found a few things at the city wide yard sale in Stanford, Ky.  last weekend.  We found this old Singer sewing machine, and purchased it to go in an old Singer sewing machine cabinet,  we already had.  We had a great time and met a lot of really nice people.   We didn't find the usual loads of glassware, that we normaly do, on the big sales.  We found lots of nice glass, but, the prices were more than the antique shops have it priced for.  We did find this cute little vintage string holder.  Hope you have a Blessed day,  Trisha

3 Gallon Crock, 1 Gallon Crock, Crock Pot

   Today has been a good day at the Flea Market.  I found these, nice old crocks.  I love crocks and have many different kinds.
   I also found a nice set of 'Derby' resturant ware dishes; white and pink, with a race horse pattern.
   We had beautiful weather and found many old things today, including Wagner and Wapak Iron Skillets, Several Tea  Pots, Vintage Jewelry, some Fishing Tackle, and much more.  The markets had better prices today, than usual.  It is getting well into Summer now, and I think the vendors are getting a little tired and really want to make a few sales and go home.  Hope you have had a wonderful and Blessed week.   

Tuesday's Treasure Hunt



Coal Oil Lamps &  Costume Jewelry

 

   Tuesdays are not my usual treasure hunting days.  I usually go on the weekends.  But, because of traffic from a nearby stock sale, one of the local flea markets, sets up on Tuesdays. 

   I love old costume jewelry, and found some nice pieces.  What I didn't expect to find were two coal oil lamps.  I really like the pretty gold color.
