Peppermint Fudge, Looks are Deceiving

Peppermint Fudge, Looks Good, Doesn't It?

   For a couple of months,
I've been seeing posts on Pinterest, and other recipe sites raving about peppermint fudge.

I thought I would try some today.  I used my favorite fudge recipe
 and added chipped peppermint candy.
A big mistake.

My usual fudge is smooth, creamy, and delicious; but, this my friends tastes like it was made with chalk, or wallpaper paste.

My husband tried a piece, and when he took a bite, a peppermint chip stuck in his tongue, and he said his first thought was, well, I bit it, and it bit me back.

I also tried Egg Nog Cake,  it actually tasted good, but, was a little heavy.  The next time I make it, I won't put egg nog in the batter, but, will mix it into the frosting.  I hope your holiday recipes are turning out better than mine.
Just a little FYI, because looks are deceiving.

Blessings. Trisha

Never Know What We'll Find at the Grocery Store

Yesterday when we went to the local grocery store, and got to the meat counter, we had to do a double take.  There in the pork section, was whole pigs feet.  Of course they were cleaned and packaged, but, even in Kentucky, we're not used to seeing them.  They must have been especially prepared for the New Year's Day meal.
We don't usually do the traditional meals, so we are having Shuck Beans seasoned with ham, Cornbread, and Onion.  They have slow cooked for about six hours and are ready to dish up.  Now that is a meal fit for a king.  Happy New Year, May God Bless You!

Making Bread Kentucky Style

Making Bread in Kentucky
Around here we are big eaters and we love our bread.  It's especially good when we have some cow butter to go with it.
We love the big ol' dusty biscuits, cornbread, flapjacks, hoecakes, fritter bread, pone bread, and cracklin' bread.  I like the store bought bread too,  but, husband always says that lite bread is what's killing people.
About everybodys knows what cornbread and biscuits are, but, a few might not know what in the world I'm talking about when I talk about flapjacks and such as that.
Well, around here we mix up flour and water and fry it like pan cakes and call'em flapjacks.  We mix flour and meal and fry in little cakes and call'em hoe cakes.  For fritter bread, we mix flour and water and drop by spoonfuls into a hot greased bread pan and bake until good and brown.  And for pone bread we mix flour and water and pour into a hot greased iron skillet and bake.  Now, the cracklin' bread is another story.  Cracklin's are rendered hog innards and are hard to find.  When we do find some, we bake them in a pan of cornbread and call it Cracklin' Bread.  It sure is good!  Another one of God's many blessings.
