Walk Upright Before Him and He Will Give You the Desires of Your Heart.

Thank You Lord, for another beautiful Sabbath Day!
Thank you for being in the church service with us this morning.
You said where two or three were gathered together in Your Name,
You would be in the midst.
We love it so much when you join us.
Though, we are not worthy to expect your presence,
we stand in awe of your Holiness

Walking by Faith

If God gives us the strength to walk,
then let us Walk by Faith.
Not wavering nor doubting.
For what thing is too great for God?
Absolutely nothing.
The bible tells us that if we walk upright before Him,
He will give us the desires of our heart.
What an awesome God, we serve.

Gone Away with a Friend

I heard a beautiful old song the other day
 It goes like this:
"Gone Away with a Friend"

I looked into the face of an old saint of God,
I thought your race is finished, your life's crown is won.
Separated for the present, but, soon to live again.
He's only gone away with a Friend.

chorus:
Gone away with a Friend, someone closer than a brother,
Someone who loves you more, than children, dad or mother.
He holds your very soul in the palm of His hand.
Let read on my tombstone, Gone Away with a Friend.

Now He's my constant companion, through life's joys and
life's pains, all my hopes and my fears, I hold in His dear name.
And when my soul breathes free from the ties that bind me here.
I'm going away with Jesus, no other Friend so dear.

chorus:

Gone are the Days of the Old Washboard

Today's find and Old Glass Washboard

We were fortunate to get a two hour lunch break today, I spent my time wisely.  I had a quick lunch and went to the local vendors mall, where I made a really nice find.  I found this old glass washboard, that brings back so many childhood memories. I've used one many times scrubbing clothes with lye soap. We had and old wringer washing machine, but, many things had to be scrubbed before putting into the washer. The pastor at the little country church we go to sings a song called "This Old Washboard." Many can relate to these simpler times of long ago.
Without internet, or microwaves or cellphones. The days seemed longer then. We had time to visit our neighbors and they had time to visit us. In today's world many don't even know their neighbors. How sad. I thank God to have lived in the simpler times and hold their memories in my heart.

Summer Days and Sunflowers

Look what beautiful sunflowers God has blessed us with this summer. Our flowers and garden all produced bountifully. A beautiful summer evening, sitting on the front porch listening to crickets and an occasional tree frog in the pines that line our yard a gentle rain is falling and our trusted tom cat lies by my chair taking everything in stride, what could be better? The lonesome call of a dove drifts softly through the evening air and the suttle flutter of their wings. The sky is clearing some now and the fog is slowly rising. Life is good and for the saved by grace it will bet better. And, for that I thank Him.

What Thou Hast Done Unto the Least of These

Today my thoughts return to a passage of scripture that is familiar to many.
You'll find it in the gospel of
Matthew 25: 40

And the King shall answer and say unto them,
Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren,
ye have done it unto me.

So, we who are called to be a light to a dying world
need so very much to bind this scripture to our hearts.

He Worked While it was Day!

I must work the works of Him that sent me,
while it is day:
the night cometh, when no man   can work.
 John 9: 4

Jesus paved the way and lights the Path.

A Bright Sunny Day, Good Friends, and Favorite Things.

What blessings God has bestowed upon us. He's given  us a bright sunny day, good friends to share it with, fresh garden vegetables, and many of our favorite things.
I made the red calico print apron in this picture for my mammo about 38 years ago. She always wore an old feed sack apron over her dresses. Some of my fondest memories of mammo was of her sitting in her rocking chair under the shade tree in her yard.
Mammo made the best homemade jelly in the world. When we went to visit her we always wanted a jelly sandwich, even if we had just gotten up from the supper table. My mom always scolded us, but, mammo just smiled and said,"Grace let them girls have a jelly sandwich if they want one." And we did.

Two of My Favorite Bible Verses

Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters,
and he that hath no money;come ye, buy, and eat;
yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and
without price.  Isaiah 55:1

But as it written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,   neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.  1st Corinthians 2:9

Remembering Nibroc from Days Gone Buy

It's that time of year again. The carnival is set up downtown Corbin for the Nibroc celebration. This is a picture of my mom taken many years ago.  Mom loved Nibroc about as good as anyone I know.
She loved to play the games; she usually lost money and wasn't happy about that. But, she was always up to go when Nibroc came to town. When we were kids the Nibroc celebration was the most anticipated event of the summer. It still draws a pretty good crowd. This year they are supposed to be filming a reality TV show downtown during Nibroc; that may draw an even bigger crowd. I wish the churches could draw crowds that big. I love the good old time Preaching, Singing & Altar Prayer.

Old 1930's Dishes

We found these 1930's Edwin M. Knowles Yorktown dishes last year and they quickly became our favorites. We collected Blue Willow for many years and still collect Virginia Rose, but, these simple little dishes have won our hearts.

It has been another hot summer day in Kentucky, the air thick with humidity made for a good day to stay indoors.  Ah! Some fresh squeezed lemonade would be nice.  And a summer salad served up in our old dishes.  God is so good to us! And we thank Him!

Sitting on our Brother's Knee

This picture was taken in the early sixties. We lived in an old  house in southern Ky. that was not much better than the old storehouse pictured in this old photo.  After dad passed away at only 50 years old, our two older brothers tried to take care of us like dad always did. One cold snowy day they played in the snow with us and snapped this picture. We had a large family but only five of us were still at home with our mother.  The older brothers and sister who were already married and moved away always sent money to help out and special presents from time to time. We didn't know we were poor and didn't know where all our blessings came from, but, now we do. We know God held us in His hand through all the hard times. I want to thank God for watching over us and giving us a good family.
The old storehouse in the photo stood in the corner of our yard. My brothers used an old car seat to make a couch and some old lard cans or buckets for tables and made a playhouse in it. We had good times playing in there.
I think my mom was the best cook in the world, and my older sister was the best house keeper.  Everytime she mopped the floors, she scrubbed the porch and swept the yard. I never see anyone sweeping their yards anymore.

Another Blessed Day!

      World's Longest Yard Sale Treasures

We had a great day; talked to a lot of really nice
people, had great weather, good company and some really nice finds.
Here is some of what we found:  A nice old sewing box, A vintage blue cast iron skillet, an old galvanized aluminum kettle, a 1 &1/2 gal. old brown crock, a red and gold carnival glass pedestal bowl and an old brown crock pickle jar.
God has richly blessed us and we are so thankful.
We also found a lot of ribbon and craft supplies for our daughter. Some nice material for aprons and bonnets, Blue & White Churchill dishes, and other misc. items.

World's Longest Yard Sale this weekend.

We are setting out on a Treasure Hunt this weekend.
The world's longest yard sale is going on, on Hwy 127.
We always meet a lot of nice people and see lots of pretty things.
I plan to look for old aprons,  doiles, old dishes, tea pots,
old jewelry and glass and I hope to share a lot of smiles.
The  weather has cooled some, I am thankful for that.
We don't plan to go as far this year or spend as much, but,
we do plan to have a good time and be thankful
for another day that God has given us.

Remember Now thy Creator

I would like to share one of my favorite Bible verses with you. I hope you enjoy it.

    Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened.
    And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
                                                                                                                         Ecclesiasstes  Ch.12 v 1-7

Almost time to make aprons and bonnets for 'Old Fashioned Days'.

Sewing is one of my favorite hobbies.  Just about every Fall, I start making calico print aprons and bonnets for 'Old Fashioned Days' at church.  I like to have some made up because we attend several churches in the surrounding area and have many friends in each of them.  Usually starting about September some of them call to see if I have any aprons and bonnets made.  It is so nice when I can say,"Yes, I do, just come and pick you out a set." I have some different bonnet patterns to try this year; I'm excited.  I love Fall of the year. The multi-colored leaves look like a color pallet from God's own hand; and briskness in the air makes for a fine day of hiking in the woods.

Another Beautiful Sunday!

The long trip to the Old Country Church this morning was brightened by rays of sunshine breaking through the clouds and a gentle August breeze.  Traffic was lighter than usual across the winding road and we didn't get held up by the train.  God is good and His beauty is all around us.  Sunday school was almost like church, with several preachers having much to say about the lesson and life experiences.  Then we had Altar Prayer, Singing, and Preaching.  It was a wonderful service and gave us strength to take us through another week.
